Chiwetel Umeadi Ejiofor is a celebrated Nigerian-British actor, born on July 10, 1977, in Forest Gate, east London, to middle-class Nigerian parents of Igbo descent. His mother, Obiajulu, worked as a pharmacist, while his father, Arinze, was a physician, both hailing from Nigeria. Chiwetel has two siblings: Zain Asher, a CNN reporter, and Dr. Kandi Ejiofor, a GP doctor.

At the age of 11, tragedy struck during a family trip to Nigeria when their car was involved in a head-on collision with a lorry, resulting in severe injuries to Chiwetel, including forehead scarring, and the loss of his father.

Chiwetel’s acting journey began in school plays during his time at Dulwich Prep London. He further honed his skills at the National Youth Theatre and later attended Dulwich College, where he continued to pursue acting. However, he left the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art after being cast in Steven Spielberg’s movie “Amistad.”

His professional career gained momentum with his feature film debut in the television film “Deadly Voyage” in 1996. He subsequently became a prominent theater actor in London and gained recognition for his role as interpreter Ensign James Covey in “Amistad.”

In the year 2000, Ejiofor garnered critical acclaim for his lead role in “Blue/Orange” at the Royal National Theatre. He received nominations and awards for his performances in various productions, including “Romeo and Juliet” and “Dirty Pretty Things,” which earned him a British Independent Film Award for Best Actor.

As of now, Chiwetel Ejiofor’s net worth is estimated to be $16 million. In his personal life, he was previously in a relationship with Sari Mercer, and he is currently dating model Frances Aaternir. He is also known for supporting the interests of the LGBT community.

Chiwetel Ejiofor is not only a talented actor but also actively involved in charitable work. In recognition of his efforts, he was honored with a Global Promise Award in 2015 by The GEANCO Foundation, a non-profit organization in West Africa.
